There are several guilds a kirnivaal may join to pick their path, however a kirnivaal is not required to join a guild. Guilds are an important aspect of social for kirnivaals. As they care little for shared blood, bonds built in guilds often lead to a family-like environment. Individuals rely on shared experience and interest to create familial structures rather than by birth. As such, there is little respect and acceptance for kirnivaals who abandon their guilds.
