Build and General Appearance
Kirnivaals vary in size and build, though the average individual is the size of a deer. They have soft coats that grow long in places. The front legs are almost always covered in longer fur, and it can grow long anywhere else (though the back legs tend to stay short). Another notable feature is the smoke trails that follow them. The mist appears three days after birth and then follows them throughout their life and grows in volume as they pick up stray stardust.

Front Legs
The front legs are typically covered in fluff to gather stardust as they travel. Bare front legs signal that a kirnivaal does not have the ability to do so, and so causes them to have trouble fitting into society.
average: most common type sleeve: also common; fur is long all over the leg glove: kirnivaals with this type may have some trouble gathering stardust, so they often have longer fluff on the rest of the body to make up for it full: this gorgeous fur is perfect for kirnivaals who travel long distances arc: single "wing" on the front legs cherub: two "wings" seraph: rarest and most valued, and rarely seen; three "wings" are present in more beauty than the previous two bare: kirnivaals with bare legs are often left behind on Apsis Major because of their inability to gather stardust; they are normally caretakers of the young, though some have ventured into the universe regardless |
Horns
Most kirnivaals have a horn of some kind, though it's also common for them to have none at all. Horns generally represent a kirnivaal's power, and they might grow larger and more complex as they age (this only happens when a kirnivaal grows significantly in power in a short amount of time).
Horns can vary in type, though the typical horn is a single pointed one. none: common short: smaller than average average: most common next to none tall: rare long horn type that normally manifests in kirnivaals of significant power unicorn: complex horn type that can vary in length mulitple line: multiple horns that go in a line up the forehead multiple brow: generally grow horizontally across the head; may manifest in a shape resembling a crown broken: broken horns symbolize a loss in power; kirnivaals with broken horns often die- a living kirnivaal with a broken horn has a huge magical stress on their body and their mental and physical fortitude should be commended |
Ears
Kirnivaals have notched ears with velvety insides. Some have fur inside them and others have different tips. Colors can vary as well as patterns.
plain: no fur and two tipped fluff: short fluff inside the ear spill-over: fur is more abundant and goes over the edges of the ear full: fur is almost completely covering the inside of the ear and tends to be longer choppy: ear may have more than two tips incision: middle of the tips has a hole (can be any shape) hole: any shape hole in the inside of the ear |
Back Legs
Kirnivaals are born without smoke trails, and three days after their birth, their smoke manifests and they are given a name.
mono: typical smoke is one color, often pale multi: smoke that is two or more colors is often representative of high-class travelers who have mixed their smoke with different kinds of stardust shimmering: smoke that sparkles or shines contains larger star particles that reflect light; shimmering smoke may also be multi-colored elemental: some kirnivaals have fire, water, or other elements instead of smoke; this is very rare and identifies a significantly strong kirnivaal hallowed: kirnivaals who cannot manifest smoke are seen as defective and do not travel the stars with their brethren; they stay on Apsis Major and have almost no magical ability |
Markings
Kirnivaals are colorful and have many different markings. The ones shown are general- markings are not limited to those here and can be combined with each other to show the diversity in markings.
speckled: like the starry sky, most kirnivaals have this type of marking somewhere on their bodies sunspots: these markings resemble spots on planets and stars (variation can be darker centers and lighter rings) coins: circles that can be either empty or filled with another color in a mockery of the sunspots pattern cobblestone: these large spots are often placed close together in a rocky pattern ripples: similar to coins but having multiple rings (normally the same color but sometimes it differs from ring to ring) zebra: these spots also roughly resemble those found on plants and can be large or small (large pictured) runes/sigils/symbols: unusual markings (not natural ones) fall under this category; kirnivaals with these are rare and the markings often represent some kind of power (THIS INCLUDES TATTOOS ETC- ANY MARKS THAT ARE NOT SCARS) nautilus: these markings resemble those sometimes found on shells and sea creatures; they differ from zebra in that they have small "waves" not a continuous stripe |
Tails
Tails are very important to kirnivaals. Touching tails is used to convey emotions and commonly symbolizes love or affection. As they travel, tails are used to steady them, and also collect stardust just like the tufts on their front legs. As such, most kirnivaals have long, solid tails, as a short one may hinder them. (Tails not limited to those shown here)
long cat: this tail type is generally thick; tufts of fur can grow out long tassel: thinner than the cat type, tassel also features a large tuft at the end (other tufts can grow at the base) medium cat: cat type of a shorter length medium tassel: tassel type of a shorter length stub: short variation of the cat type fluff: short variation of the tassel type multiples; can be any type and any length; multiple tails single significant ability in a kirnivaal royal: this type is the rarest; the long hair is perfect for gathering stardust and it resembles that tail of a comet *mermaid: this tail type resembles a fish tail, though it's still fur in the imitation of scales and fins (it's rumored that a kirnivaal exists with a true mermaid tail however...) *extra long: type (either cat or tassel) that is much longer than average; this beautiful type is seen the same as the royal type no tail: this trait is never seen as it is very detrimental to a kirnivaal; a kinivaal cannot survive long without a tail and those born without one die young |
Rings
Sometimes a kirnivaal's power causes the stardust it collects to solidify into rings. A powerful kirnivaal can form large and complex ones, and those with many decades of traveling have accumulated large amounts of stardust to create them.
small: small rings make up for size with quantity big: bigger rings often manifest alone rather than in a pair like small ones layers: sometimes rings grow on each other, creating beautiful patterns; these are seen more in older kirnivaals who have collected many different types of stardust satellites: stardust sometimes clusters around the rings to form satellites that orbit around them; they come in a variety of shapes, though generally stay small **galaxy: the rarest type of rings is almost scarcely seen and is 100% unique to every kirnivaal that possesses it; these rings are a combination of the other types in a beautiful display that normally embodies the kirnivaals favorite celestial spots **galaxy rings are extra rare and unavailable; rings are currently limited to one type |
